'Minimise your mistakes, maximise your turnover', says printing expert

A print and small business marketing expert is warning business owners to pay more attention to their marketing literature in order to increase their turnover.

Louise Hodge, owner of Fidelity Print, advises that professional literature makes a huge difference to the perception people have of your business.

Put simply, a lack of errors means more sales.

She has seen business owners ruin whole print runs because of bad spelling, punctuation or grammar that a spellchecker won’t always pick up.

This makes the business look unprofessional and encourages potential clients to look for other more professional companies to spend their money with.

She offers three key tips to all business owners before they approve any documents for print.

•    Print out your documents to read – don’t read them on the computer screen as you are more likely to miss errors. Edit in a contrasting ink, correct the mistakes on the computer and repeat

•    Get a second opinion. When you have spent time writing something it can be very easy to read what you think it should say. A second pair of eyes will notice any errors or anything that is unclear or awkward

•    Check it again when it’s in the correct layout. What may look perfect on white paper might look odd on the final design, or it may be positioned awkwardly

Finally, Louise advises that companies shouldn’t rely on spellcheckers and should have all copy proofread by professionals before sending anything to print to save money on a second print run.

Unlike other business printers, Fidelity Print proofreads documents for anyone who is signed up to its FidelityDesigner Suite to ensure that every print run is perfect.

Louise said: “Our ability to check copy before it goes to print solves this problem in a way that other printers can’t, and ensures that your business always looks professional and competent – which results in more business for you.”

A FidelityDesigner Suite provides a library of tailored marketing materials for your business that you can edit yourself and update time and again with no design experience needed.

Business owners can also consult with Fidelity Print to determine the best ways to reach their marketing goals and design the correct materials to compliment those goals.

She added: “Unfortunately, we hear from so many business owners who have spent thousands on business printing, only to discover an obvious mistake when they receive the printed documents.

“It goes without saying that small businesses can’t afford to waste money on a second print run because of spelling errors, but these entrepreneurs also need to consider if they’re sending the right message in their marketing materials.”

Fidelity Print is based in Milton Keynes and aims to put business owners back in charge of their own marketing by providing online printing and small business marketing solutions.

Its services can be accessed online at www.fidelityprint.co.uk, or in person with Louise and her team of professionals.
