Customer service operative

Central to the processes of our busy print centre, you will learn how to support our customers, provide information and assistance, process quotes and orders, proof files, invoice and despatch print jobs.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • To report to directors.
  • Using our Management Information System (MIS) daily as our main database for all customer ordering, quoting, proofing and information collection.
  • To respond to all customer queries in a timely manner, within the same working day where possible.
  • Managing customers including quoting/estimating, progressing to a job, sending proofs, raising purchase orders and managing outwork orders, invoicing completed jobs, taking payments on collection and packing and despatching goods.
  • To create accurate quotations by liaising with the Studio and Production to ensure the customer’s expectations for delivery and costs are met. Directing complex quotations where required to the estimator.
  • To solve problems as they arise and delegate tasks to the relevant teams as required.
  • Thrive during peak pressures of work and be able to manage and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Stock management with stock ordering in a timely manner.
  • To direct any customer complaints to the relative person and offer an understanding approach and excellent customer service when customers report issues.
  • Help out with print finishing/hand finishing of print where required.
  • Contribute to cleaning and keeping the work place tidy, making tea etc

The successful candidate will have:

  • Confidence in using computers and software, and proficient in Microsoft Office, especially with Word, Outlook and Excel.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise in a fast-paced environment

Previous experience or knowledge of print would be advantageous

£16,107.00 – £24,000 dependent on applicant experience

Digital Pre-press & Print Production Operative

We are seeking an experienced Digital Pre-press & Print Production Operative to join our design and print company based in Bedford. You’ll get hands on with printing and manufacturing everything from business cards to banners and beyond.

Job will include:

Running Xerox digital production presses using Fiery Command WorkStation, HP and Canon large format machines and all associated finishing equipment

Finishing print jobs (i.e. trimming, binding, packing, die-cutting etc)

Handling and assembling large-format materials and media

Hand-finishing of small products

Some design and art working to create customer documents for print

Cleaning and maintaining machinery

Taking delivery of stock and checking stock levels

Helping and advising customers and taking briefs in person and on the phone

The right candidate will:

Need good practical skills, great communication and work well under pressure. Aspects of this job are physically demanding with heavy lifting required for paper and media stock.

Be able to learn on-the-job and take on information quickly.

Be able to multi-task and react to tight deadlines.

Have good attention to detail in order to accurately proof print jobs, spot mistakes or colour problems in print jobs.

Be personable and confident with a good telephone manner and be able to deal with clients on the phone or in person, therefore, candidates need to have an appreciation of and focus on customer service to help increase sales within the business.

Be comfortable with serving and taking payment from customers including credit card payments.

Need to be familiar with PC and Microsoft applications such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel and have knowledge and experience of art working/design using Adobe Creative Suite Software.

There will be an initial three-month probationary period with on-the-job training to ISO9001 standards followed by a competence evaluation before determining whether you join the team permanently.

The successful candidate should also have a minimum of Grade C in English and Maths or equivalent.

In addition to excellent attention to detail they will also be enthusiastic with a positive can-do attitude, technical, hardworking and reliable – and most importantly – have a good sense of humour and like working with dogs.

Starting at £16,000 + dependent on applicant experience (L2 or L3 BPIF apprenticeship an option)
